Exams

No late exams will be accepted. Exams may be true/false, multiple choice, matching and/or essay with a time limit. 5 points is deducted for each minute you exceed the set time limit, so please watch your time!

Oral Report

You will select a topic related to modern US history, research and prepare a 10-15 minute Oral Report. The Oral report will be presented to me by 06/28/11.

Discussions

To develop a sense of community and benefit from the contributions of every student topics will be posted weekly by the instructor to the http://shchistory220.blogspot.com

Discussion responses will be graded according to:

· Content

· How well you expressed your points or ideas

· Netiquette

  • 2 postings per discussion - 1 to instructor and 1 to another class member

Some discussions will require you to read the initial question your instructor has posted. Then you will need to leave the online classroom and do some work either from the textbook or on the Internet before you can respond. Other discussions will require you to respond to another student’s posting. Don't simply state "I agree or disagree", explain why and give valid reasons to back up your point.

Points will not be given for discussion replies posted after the due date. It is strongly recommended that you check in daily to keep up with the discussions! There are at least 3 discussions per week and you respond back to Instructor and a class member on each discussion.

Best Advice:

· Give yourself plenty of time each week for participating in discussions

· Participate in each Weekly discussion with at least 2 constructive responses (one to instructor and one to a class member)

· Be courteous and professional when responding to postings

Participation

This is NOT a self-paced course. The material is paced and assignments/exams/discussions will only be available during the time specified. You are held accountable to meet the time commitments set in this course and exceptions are seldom granted. Plan to schedule your time accordingly and expect to spend at least ten hours per week covering the requirements for the course.

The majority of your learning will be self-directed and the instructor will act as a guide on the side to assist with the disciplines involved to fully learn the material.

Attendance

In accordance with the Stevens-Henager Hybrid Attendance Policy, all students must attend the on-campus sessions as scheduled. Per policy, more than two absences will result in an F for the course.
